Our Story

Hello, My name is Mandeep Kataria & I am the Founder of Neti Neti Life.
Growing up in Bangalore, I watched my parents pour their heart & soul into a clothing brand for women. They built it from the ground up, together.

At the age of 12-13, I'd hang around the store and the workshop, during summers and school holidays. Just observing, soaking in the sights, sounds, and conversations. At that age, the secret motivation for being there was to visit a popular bakery that stood next door. The softest cheese-filled buns & croissants were the highlight.
 
When I turned about 15-16, I became observant of fabric. I paid attention to how it felt & looked. I'd look for colors and prints that men could wear. Again, the motivation was selfish: to have tailored shirts that reflected my taste.
As an introverted teenager, fashion became my voice. It felt empowering to wear garments that held personal significance. Reflecting on my taste, I discovered a strange paradox.
A desire to stand out while also avoiding unnecessary attention.
 
It's been over 20 years since that "phase" & this passion has only grown. Styling myself and now others has been a source of fulfillment.
 
Neti Neti Life is an expression of that.
 
Neti Neti is a Sanskrit phrase that means “Not this, not this” or, “Neither this, nor that”.
Chanting of the phrase, serves as a meditative reminder, that we are NOT the labels we give ourselves. Nor are we the identities that society assigns to us.
We are a lot more. And, It’s in rejecting the false labels, we have the opportunity to discover our true selves.
 
This philosophy of finding comfort in authenticity is the essence of Neti Neti Life. We want to make thoughtful choices available to those who appreciate this.
